The Oil IT Journal described the event at the SPE Digital Energy Conference in Woodlands, Texas in March 2013, as: “Kuwait Oil (KOC) and supplier Halliburton pulled off something of a coup by dominating the last day of the conference with multiple presentations on KOC’s intelligent digital field (IDF) project.”

KOC presented total of seven papers at this Conference, describing the progress of Sabriyah IDF. Sabriyah IDF in North Kuwait is one of four KOC intelligent digital field projects currently developed. Sabriyah IDF infrastructure that was designed to ‘turn data to actionable information.’ A detailed analysis of Sabriyah IDF infrastructure as well as the data management and workflows were presented.

The system that has been in use for two years, and already supported KOC in its drive to assure the common integration platform and turned data into something that can be intuitively understood.

Messrs Ahmad Jasmi and Harish Goel of KOC explained the details of the IDF diagnostics and optimization. A complex optimization program is currently run from the KOC’s North Kuwait collaboration center. A lot of AI is embedded in the system leaving engineers to do their job in collaboration mode. Statistical and analytical tools embed the smart workflows to filter correlate and perform Monte Carlo analysts and Pareto plots. Simultaneous actions are conducted by various stakeholders on the same workflow and data. KOC representatives stressed that a comprehensive change management program delivered across variety of internal stakeholders was instrumental in achieving success.
